Challenge

National Rugby League (NRL), the Southern Hemisphere's elite rugby league championship, delivers to a huge and dedicated rugby fan base that has rapidly come to expect a wide range of online content and tools to support their passion. Keeping fans satisfied ensures that the NRL stays in control of extremely valuable media rights. In order to meet these expectations a large program of pre-season work was initiated and delivering this was proving difficult without a strong overarching vision that enabled prioritisation and action..

Approach

Chisholm & Harper quickly recognised that success with NRL wasn’t going to come from a long consultative process. Key members of the delivery team were brought together with the executive director in a full day workshop. In this session a clear vision of what needed to be achieved was agreed and with this as the guide, the key decisions needed to prepare for season launch were made.

Having the right people together at the right time transformed the project from meandering to results-focused in a matter of hours.

Outcome

For NRL a strategically timed workshop, with just the right people, gave them a clearer view of what could achieved in the short term and paved a way forward for the coming three year period. For them a short-term tactical plan for season launch preparation was invaluable.

Armed with strategy and tactics, NRL powered into the 2009 rugby season.
